RuneScape Reignited May Let Veterans Switch Versions

Jagex has outlined possible changes to RuneScape Reignited after reviewing player feedback. The ideas could improve access for existing characters and recognise Veteran history, but none is final.

Early ideas, not confirmed features

Jagex has published an end-of-week response to the debate around RuneScape Reignited after reviewing the feedback received throughout the week. The studio stresses that the options are only a selection of the directions discussed during this first round. Some have not yet passed technical feasibility checks, so the document should not be treated as a confirmed feature list.

The update does not cancel Reignited, approve a delay or announce a revised schedule. Its purpose is to show which directions currently resonate with the team, collect detailed responses over the weekend and use that feedback to guide further studio discussions next week.

One character under one membership

The most notable proposal directly addresses criticism of a separate subscription. Jagex is exploring whether an existing character could be “Reignited” within its current membership. The design goal is to preserve the player’s legacy while allowing the same character to switch between Veteran and Reignited versions, reducing the need for a second subscription or a completely separate identity.

This model could offer a fresh-start progression experience without making years of character history disappear. However, Jagex has not explained how the switch would work behind the scenes, which data the two versions might share or what boundaries would be required to protect the new economy.

Reignited-only worlds could leave the plan

The studio is also reconsidering the risk of a permanently divided community. Jagex is discussing how long Reignited-only worlds should remain available after release and is even considering removing them from the plan entirely. The aim would be to let Reignited and Veteran characters live alongside one another on the same worlds, much as Ironman characters coexist with others today.

Restrictions on cross-character play could also ease shortly after launch. Jagex says that step might come once the fresh economy has found its feet and the major World First races are complete. No date or definitive list of shared activities has been provided, and the update does not promise that the separate Grand Exchange economies will merge.

Veteran history may carry through exclusive rewards

Jagex wants Veteran to become a permanent status symbol that future characters cannot earn. It is considering an exclusive reward suite recognising achievements from RuneScape’s first 25 years, with a special cosmetic Max Cape offered only as an example. Under the proposal, every Veteran account would receive access to those rewards, and they would follow a character that chooses to Reignite.

Other potential transfers focus on account history without directly affecting gameplay: cosmetics, bank spaces, past holiday rewards, prestigious titles and skill pets are all named. The list and its rules remain subject to review, particularly where an unlock might influence progression or the economy.

Feedback and technical checks will decide what survives

According to Jagex, RuneScape has hundreds of thousands of members even when occasional Old School RuneScape visitors are excluded, although the company also acknowledges a long-running slight decline. It says the Veteran and Reignited economies and experiences will carry equal weight in its monitoring, with intervention possible if either faces a poor outcome. No thresholds or remedies have been defined.

The team plans to read responses throughout the weekend and continue the conversation next week. For now, this is a concrete consultation on Reignited’s direction, not patch notes or a final design specification.
