RuneScape Reignited Cancelled, December Plans Remain

Jagex has cancelled RuneScape Reignited after reviewing player feedback. The December 2 updates, limited free membership access and the broader 2027 roadmap are still moving ahead.

Why Jagex cancelled Reignited

Jagex confirmed on October 15, 2026 that RuneScape Reignited, announced at RuneFest, has been cancelled. Mod Ryan said the team reviewed the wide range of responses that followed the reveal and concluded that the proposal had missed the mark. The project is not simply delayed or entering another test phase: the studio will not proceed with Reignited in its announced form.

Protecting the existing RuneScape community is central to the decision. Jagex still wants the game to grow by welcoming new and returning players, but says that growth should not come at the expense of those already playing. Mod Ryan also pointed to the lasting consequences of an earlier combat change as a reminder of what can happen when player feedback is not properly heard.

For players, the clearest practical result is that there will be no split worlds for Reignited. People joining in December will play alongside the existing RuneScape population instead of entering a separate environment. Anyone hoping for Reignited as a distinct new experience will not receive that version, although the cancellation does not erase every update planned for the end of the year.

The December 2 releases are still scheduled

Adventure Guide and the first part of Remastered Journey remain scheduled for December 2. Jagex also plans to release a broader set of improvements on the same date, including changes connected to topics players had raised during the previous week. Cancelling Reignited therefore does not cancel these releases.

The date is particularly relevant to people starting RuneScape for the first time or returning after a long break. Jagex says the package will showcase work invested in the main game over the last 18 months. A complete list of the additional improvements and their precise launch timing has not yet been provided, so players will need to watch the official announcements closer to release.

Who qualifies for the ten-day free access period?

Eligible characters will receive free access to RuneScape members' worlds and content from December 2 through December 12, 2026. Exact opening and closing times are still to be confirmed. New characters qualify, as do characters that, on December 2, have not held active membership since June 2, 2026. No purchase or subscription is required.

Old School RuneScape members' worlds are specifically excluded. Characters that have held active membership at any point since June 2 are not eligible, and Jagex will not issue refunds for existing subscriptions or purchases. Returning players should check the membership history of the character they intend to use before relying on the promotional window.

The 2027 roadmap stays in place

Reignited's cancellation does not remove RuneScape's plans for 2027. Jagex is still working on combat and skilling content, conclusions to storylines left open for roughly a decade, a new grandmaster quest and an Agility rework. Changes under the Road to Restoration banner also remain on the roadmap, though the terms make clear that plans can change during development.

The announcement also set October 19 as the launch date for plugins. Reignited is ending as a separate project, but near-term system work and longer-term content plans continue. Players should distinguish the dated December releases from the more flexible 2027 goals when deciding what is confirmed and what may still move.

Players trading RuneScape items or accounts can use GameinShop's escrow system to keep the transaction protected until both sides complete their obligations.
