RuneScape Reignited launches December 2 with a new economy

RuneScape Reignited will add a permanent fresh-start character type and an independent economy without wiping existing players' progress.

A permanent character type, not a new server

Jagex unveiled RuneScape Reignited during the RuneFest 2026 Summit. Launching on December 2, it is a permanent character type designed for newcomers and returning players who want to explore 25 years of content from a shared starting line. Reignited characters can occupy the same Gielinor worlds as existing players, chat with them, and join the same clans and Homesteads. Dedicated Reignited-only worlds will also be available.

The model does not erase existing accounts or progression. Current characters will continue under the Veteran designation, while newly created characters can choose either Veteran or Reignited. Characters cannot switch type later. Reignited is therefore neither a temporary season nor a mandatory reset for the entire community; it is a long-term route running alongside the established game.

Economy and boss progression are firmly separated

A completely fresh economy sits at the center of Reignited. Veteran and Reignited characters cannot trade items or currency with one another. Each population will have its own Grand Exchange, with no option to move between markets. The two character types also cannot share boss instances. These boundaries are intended to keep 25 years of accumulated wealth out of the new market and stop old fortunes from shaping the opening race.

Materials that are plentiful in the Veteran market may be scarce during Reignited's early period. That creates a different landscape for players focused on gathering, crafting, and trade. Jagex also says swapping gold into or out of Reignited will be prohibited, with fuller anti-cheat rules due before launch. There is no fixed deadline or confirmed plan to merge the economies later; protecting the stability of both markets is the stated priority.

World-first achievements return through the Hall of Legends

Reignited offers more than an empty marketplace. World-first achievements will reopen across combat, skilling, quests, exploration, and several less conventional challenges. The characters and accomplishments of first finishers will be commemorated with permanent statues in the Hall of Legends. The fresh start therefore becomes a race through RuneScape's breadth, not merely a contest to build wealth fastest.

The December 2 update will also introduce the Adventure Guide and a remastered early-game journey. Jagex presents these features as a way to help lapsed players relearn complex systems and give first-time adventurers clearer direction. The studio also says its 2027 content roadmap will serve both Veteran and Reignited characters, rather than designing future updates solely around the new mode.

Member content is free for the first ten days

Reignited characters receive free access to members' worlds from December 2 through December 12. After that trial, the character type requires its own membership; membership attached to a Veteran character will not automatically cover a separate Reignited character. Cosmetic overrides can still be sold through the marketplace, but paid progression advantages and Radiant stars will not be available to Reignited characters.

Veteran progress remains intact and the mature economy will continue operating. Shared worlds prevent a complete social split, while activities affecting trade or progression remain isolated between the two structures. Jagex says it is also improving world capacity and reducing lag in preparation for higher player counts. More information on Reignited, the Adventure Guide, the remastered opening experience, and integrity rules is expected before launch.
