RuneScape's 2027 roadmap reveals three major story arcs
Jagex is structuring RuneScape's 2027 content around three story arcs lasting roughly four months each. The roadmap spans quests, bosses, skill reworks and core quality-of-life work.
A year built around connected story arcs
The roadmap unveiled during RuneFest 2026 marks a clear change in how RuneScape will organize its annual releases. Jagex plans to divide 2027 into three distinct story arcs, each covering about four months. Quests, areas, bosses and skilling content will share a common theme within each arc, although every update will not need to follow one continuous quest line.
The goal is to make developments across Gielinor feel connected instead of arriving as isolated patches. Locations and characters are expected to react to the events unfolding around them. Alongside those narratives, work will continue on a unified collection log, a grouping-system overhaul, a clan finder, a revised quest timeline, frequent balance passes and further clean-up updates.
Dragons, clues and Agility lead the first arc
Hoard of Dragons begins in January with Dragon Slayer II at its center. Players will travel to the new Dragon Isle to investigate Oziach's past and the threat posed by a destructive gilded dragon. The island is more than a quest backdrop: activities include stealing dragon eggs, hatching them with Firemaking, hunting dragons for scales and using those materials to transform armour.
Grandmaster Clue Scrolls will arrive during the same arc, adding a demanding tier with bosses, timed trials and high-level skilling steps. Rewards include the new Gilded Dye, while a short introductory quest is intended to make Treasure Trails easier to enter. The Agility rework will revisit run energy, integrate Surge, Dive and Escape more closely, and refresh training courses.
Arposandra opens in summer before a Karamja raid
The City of Gnomes, planned for summer, continues a storyline left waiting for fifteen years through the grandmaster quest The Curse of Arposandra. Arposandra will remain a fully explorable city with skilling activities, combat encounters and achievements after the story ends. Glouphrie the Untrusted becomes a solo boss, while all six existing gnome quests and their surrounding areas receive remastering work.
This arc also introduces Argento's Nightmare, RuneScape's first community skilling boss. The non-instanced encounter will stay active in each world and will not require players to form a group, using Woodcutting, Firemaking, Divination and Farming mechanics. The third arc, Secrets of Karamja, centers on an Archaeology Guild expedition and a multi-boss Temple of Ah Za Rhoon raid ending with Witch Queen Rashiliyia.
What the roadmap means for players
The plan is not limited to headline adventures. Jagex says it will address unreliable clickboxes, forced camera movement, world-server performance and characters stopping when inventory items are used. The returning ninja team will focus on restoration work and smaller requests that may not anchor a major release but can make everyday play smoother.
Individual details can still change during development, so players should watch later official posts for firm release dates and final reward balance. Even so, the announced scope gives clear targets to quest fans as well as players focused on skills, bosses and collections. RuneScape items, gold and accounts can be traded securely on GameinShop with escrow protection.
