Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4b makes boss fights more consistent
Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4b is live with a focus on boss reliability. The update adjusts immunity windows, phase behavior, unreachable loot and arena flow.
The patch focuses on boss flow
Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4b appears to be less about sweeping balance and more about making major boss encounters behave cleanly. The notes mention Tor Gul, the Defiler, Tasgul, Swallower of Light and several Arbiter fights. These changes may look narrow, but in endgame content a broken phase, missed transition or unreachable reward can ruin an otherwise successful run.
One of the clearest changes is the removal of most stun and freeze immunity windows from all versions of Tor Gul. That should make the fight feel more consistent for characters that invest in control effects. The boss is not being turned into a harmless target, but players should see their timing and build choices produce results more reliably.
Tasgul and Arbiter fixes
The Minion Phase in the Tasgul, Swallower of Light fight has also been improved. Minion phases often define the rhythm of an encounter: target priority, arena pressure and how safely a build can reposition. A cleaner phase should help the fight feel learnable rather than erratic, especially for parties or builds that rely on controlling space.
Several Arbiter issues were addressed as well. A bug where It That Was Esh could fail to advance phases properly has been fixed. Arbiter of Divinity should no longer rarely drop loot in an unreachable location, and defeating that boss now re-enables the exit elevator. These are not raw power changes, but they matter because they protect the player's time after a demanding fight.
Arbiter of Ash gets a fairer window
The Arbiter of Ash encounter now gives players more time to reach the first Flame Seed during the combo that begins with the Large Laser. For players still learning the mechanic, that timing change is meaningful. Path of Exile 2's boss design leans heavily on positioning, recognition and reaction, so a slightly wider window can turn a confusing failure into a readable mistake.
The notes also mention an adjustment to the voice line used by Arbiter of Ash for the skill that creates lanes. Audio cues are not just flavor in a dense action RPG; they help players identify danger while the screen is crowded. When those cues line up better with the attack, survival depends more on awareness and less on guessing.
What players should do next
This patch should not be read as a broad rebalance that forces new characters or full build changes. It is closer to a maintenance update that removes frustration from specific high-pressure encounters and makes mechanics pay off more consistently. Players stuck on Tor Gul or Arbiter routes may want to retry them before changing their setup.
