Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.4 Reworks Runes of Aldur Progression
Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4 gives Runes of Aldur a clearer endgame direction. The update adds an Expedition Atlas Passive Tree, level-scaling Unique items, and new currency hooks around Atziriโs Temple.
Runes of Aldur gets a stronger progression layer
Grinding Gear Games has released Path of Exile 2 patch 0.5.4, and the update is more than a routine balance pass. Its main focus is the Runes of Aldur league, especially the Expedition systems that shape a large part of the current endgame loop. Instead of leaving Expedition as a mostly fixed activity, the patch gives players more control over how they build toward rewards and encounters.
The headline feature is a dedicated Expedition Atlas Passive Tree. Players earn points for this tree by defeating bosses across The Grand Expedition questline, which turns Expedition progression into a more deliberate path. If you are farming the league mechanic regularly, the new tree should make your choices feel more permanent and easier to tune around a specific goal.
What the Expedition Atlas tree changes
The new passive tree acts like a planning tool for Runes of Aldur runs. Some nodes improve the baseline value of Expedition content, while others change how encounters appear or how rewards are shaped. That matters because repeated endgame farming in Path of Exile is rarely about one isolated run; it is about stacking small advantages until a route becomes worth your time.
Patch 0.5.4 also introduces Liquid Verisium. After allocating the Feeling Lucky? passive, players can buy this currency from Farrow and use it to start a Runic Remnant encounter immediately with a random Runic Inscription. Grand Expeditions can now also roll one or two Expedition map modifiers, making individual areas less predictable but potentially more rewarding for players who build around the added pressure.
Level-scaling Uniques open earlier build testing
The patch is not only for Expedition specialists. Unique items, especially those that grant skills, are being adjusted so their requirements and power can scale with player level. The goal is straightforward: interesting items should not always sit outside a build plan until the late game, especially when they define how a character plays.
For players, this can change the feel of campaign progression and alternate-character leveling. A Unique that once looked exciting but unusable for dozens of levels may now become part of a build much earlier. Because the item scales instead of arriving at full late-game strength, the system adds experimentation without simply flooding early progression with overtuned power.
Atziriโs Temple and the market angle
The notes also point to a new currency item connected to Atziriโs Temple. In Path of Exile economies, this kind of addition can reshape what players decide to farm: boss access, special-area runs, crafting materials, and corruption-focused gambles can all move in price once a new sink or reward path becomes relevant.
In the short term, expect players to test which Expedition nodes produce the best returns and how Liquid Verisium fits into efficient farming routes. Over time, level-scaling Uniques may become more visible in league-start builds and leveling guides.
