Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.4 expands Atlas and Expedition choices

Grinding Gear Games has outlined the first major beats of Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.4. The preview points to deeper endgame planning, more Expedition control and several economy-facing changes.

Why Patch 0.5.4 matters

Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.5.4 is being presented as a substantial upcoming update rather than a narrow maintenance pass. The preview groups together several systems that can change how players plan maps, choose side content and evaluate loot during both progression and endgame farming.

The headline items are a new Atlas Passive Tree for Runes of Aldur, expanded Expedition customization, level-scaling Unique Items and a new currency item connected to Atziri’s Temple. Taken together, those points suggest a patch aimed at player agency: more ways to decide what content appears, how much risk to take and which rewards are worth building around.

A dedicated Atlas tree for Runes of Aldur

The biggest structural change in the preview is the addition of a new Atlas Passive Tree for Runes of Aldur. Atlas passives have traditionally been one of the main tools for shaping endgame routines in Path of Exile, so a dedicated tree can make this content feel less random and more deliberately farmable.

The exact passive nodes have not been fully detailed in the candidate summary, but the direction is already clear. Players should expect new decisions around frequency, reward scaling or encounter behavior once the patch lands. For dedicated endgame players, that may mean planning routes around Runes of Aldur instead of treating them as occasional bonuses.

More control over Expedition and Unique items

Expedition is also set to receive expanded customization. Because Expedition encounters are built around player-selected risks and reward modifiers, extra control can have a direct effect on efficiency. Small changes to how encounters are configured may shift which builds handle the content comfortably and which reward paths become popular.

Level-scaling Unique Items could be just as important for character planning. If more Uniques remain relevant across a wider level range, players may get smoother leveling paths and more room to test build ideas before reaching the late game. The market may also react if previously short-lived items gain practical value beyond their old leveling window.

Atziri’s Temple and the early economy

The new currency item for Atziri’s Temple is the clearest economy hook in the preview. In Path of Exile, a new currency rarely exists in isolation; it changes what players farm, what they store and which trades become attractive during the first days of a patch.

When 0.5.4 goes live, players will want to watch the full patch notes, drop sources and early pricing closely. The update looks positioned to reward preparation, especially for players who enjoy targeted farming and early-market decisions. Path of Exile 2 currency, items and accounts can also be traded on GameinShop with escrow-supported protection.
