Old School RuneScape Adds Pete Kayer’s PvP Challenges

Old School RuneScape has opened a structured, optional combat training course at Ferox Enclave. Pete Kayer’s challenges teach practical PvP fundamentals without making rewards the main attraction.

Low-risk practice arrives at Ferox Enclave

Old School RuneScape added Pete Kayer’s Challenges to Ferox Enclave on October 7, 2026, giving players a structured place to develop combat fundamentals. The activity is entirely optional and is aimed primarily at anyone who wants to approach PvP with more confidence. It removes much of the pressure associated with learning against seasoned opponents or risking equipment before the essential inputs begin to feel natural.

The lessons are not useful only in player-versus-player combat. Reading an incoming attack, selecting the correct protection prayer and recovering from a dangerous position are also central to many demanding PvM encounters. Players with no immediate plans to enter the Wilderness can therefore use the course to improve reactions and consistency that carry into boss fights and other high-intensity combat.

Five skills form the core curriculum

The course focuses on prayer switching, gear switching, combo eating, escaping freezes and using special attacks at the right moment. Each lesson is designed to move beyond simply knowing which interface element to click. Prayer and equipment drills, for example, ask players to recognise an attack style and coordinate defence with an appropriate offensive response under time pressure.

Combo-eating practice teaches recovery after sudden bursts of damage by combining suitable healing options efficiently. Freeze-escape exercises instead emphasise positioning, distance and the choices available when movement has been restricted. Special-attack training is similarly concerned with judgement rather than merely spending energy: an opponent’s health, defence and the available attack window all matter. Together, these drills turn isolated techniques into repeatable combat habits.

Rising difficulty leads to a simulated duel

The challenges become more demanding as players progress, increasing the speed and accuracy required to succeed. Some lessons include endless modes, allowing participants to pursue longer streaks and measure personal improvement after the basic objective has been cleared. That format is especially helpful for mechanics such as rapid gear or prayer switching, where repetition and muscle memory can matter as much as theoretical knowledge.

The course culminates in a simulated fight against Pete himself. He changes gear and prayers, uses combo eating and can introduce surprise special attacks, recreating some of the uncertainty of facing a real opponent. Rather than testing each lesson in isolation, the encounter combines the full set of skills in a shifting battle. Players must observe Pete’s choices, manage their timing and remain composed when his strategy changes.

Rewards support training without becoming the focus

Defeating Pete awards the activity’s standout prize: an Imbued God cape cosmetic kit bearing the symbol of Zaros. The kit is applied to an existing Mage Arena II imbued cape, making it a visual customisation rather than a new source of combat power. First completions and a limited number of repeat fights can also provide blighted supplies and a small, capped amount of Last Man Standing points.

Those limits are important because the challenges are not intended to become a repeatable money-making method. Their lasting value lies in offering a controlled route into PvP fundamentals and a place to rehearse mechanics that remain useful in PvM. Newer fighters can follow the lessons in sequence, while experienced players can use endless modes to sharpen specific weaknesses.
