Mortimer brings task choices to OSRS Slayer
New Slayer Master Mortimer replaces a single assignment with choices and guaranteed bonuses. His unlock milestones were also reduced after feedback.
How Mortimer is unlocked
Mortimer arrives in Old School RuneScape with Wyrmscraig on July 29. After gaining access to its caverns during The Fallen From Grace quest, players can unlock him with 100 Combat and 70 Slayer. Anyone with 99 Slayer can ignore the Combat requirement.
Rather than assigning one task, Mortimer presents two choices; a third becomes available after completing 50 assignments for him. The design adds control over targets, task length and bonuses without removing the uncertainty at the heart of Slayer.
Guaranteed modifiers have a cost
Every Mortimer assignment carries a modifier affecting points, creature quantity, Slayer XP, Clue Scroll rates or the Superior unique table. He exclusively assigns creatures with Superior variants, creating a more focused route for players pursuing rare rewards such as the Imbued Heart.
The flexibility is expensive. Skipping costs 100 Slayer Points, and each of two block slots costs 120. Turael cannot reset Mortimer tasks, while stored assignments share slots with normal Slayer. Players must weigh each choice against their point budget.
Thresholds reduced after feedback
Community feedback prompted faster progression. Point and quantity modifiers start unlocked; the Clue modifier opens at 15 tasks, Superior unique rate at 25, XP at 40 and the third task choice at 50. The Venator Superior unique modifier was also raised to a 200โ300 percent range.
Mortimer is positioned as an alternative, not a universal replacement for existing masters: he rewards players who value choices and Superior drops. Slayer gear, gold or account transactions can be handled safely on GameinShop with escrow protection.
