The Fractured Archive Arrives as OSRS’s Fourth Raid
The Fractured Archive opens beneath Lumbridge on October 20, 2026. Players will choose a route and fight five of the raid’s eight possible bosses.
A New Raid Beneath Lumbridge
Old School RuneScape’s fourth raid, The Fractured Archive, is scheduled to launch on October 20, 2026. The adventure takes players below one of the game’s most familiar locations, into an ancient archive associated with Guthix. Its chambers hold both artifacts and knowledge from an earlier age, but adventurers are not the only ones interested in that legacy. Rival god factions and the archive’s guardians are also seeking control of what lies within.
Access requires completion of While Guthix Sleeps. That condition places the raid after a major chapter of the Guthix storyline and gives prospective teams a clear task to finish before release day. Anyone who has not completed the quest should review its requirements ahead of October 20, leaving enough time to handle story progression and prepare suitable equipment without a last-minute rush.
Your Route Determines Five of Eight Bosses
The Fractured Archive will scale for groups of two to eight players. Entering alone is technically possible, but the encounters are tuned around a minimum team size of two, making a solo completion an intentionally severe challenge. Smaller groups will need consistent coordination, while larger parties will have to manage roles, positioning, and shared resources without letting extra players create confusion.
During each run, the team selects a path through the archive and fights five bosses from a total pool of eight. A single completion therefore will not reveal every encounter. Alternative paths should give returning teams a reason to face different boss combinations and learn more of the raid over multiple attempts. The format is deliberately combat-focused: there are no puzzle rooms separating the encounters, and the chosen route ultimately leads into a final showdown.
That structure makes route choice part of the learning process rather than a cosmetic decision. In the opening weeks, teams may benefit more from discovering which sequence suits their strengths than from chasing an assumed universal route. Detailed boss mechanics and optimal compositions will only become clear once players can test the finished raid, so pre-release strategy claims should be treated cautiously.
A Full-Team Wipe Resets the Run at Launch
Under the launch rules, losing the entire team will end the current attempt and send the group back to the beginning. That raises the value of survival and careful resource use while players are still learning unfamiliar encounters. A later update is planned to introduce Tombs of Amascut-style retries, although continuing after a defeat is expected to come with reduced rewards and fewer resources.
Practice mode will not be available on release day either. The current plan is to add it several weeks after launch, so the earliest progression attempts will take place under the normal run rules. Both the retry system and the timing of practice mode remain forward-looking plans rather than launch features; teams should check official announcements in case their implementation or schedule changes.
Announced Rewards and Release Preparation
Rewards approved or mentioned for the raid include the Obligator, Ascension crossbows, Zorya’s Tome, the Rondache, Zeal, and Elemental Fragments. A raid teleport drop has also been discussed, offering a potential way to shorten future journeys to the activity. Exact drop rates, market values, and efficient farming methods should not be assumed before release, as those details will depend on the live version and any further official information.
Players preparing now can complete While Guthix Sleeps, assemble a dependable group of two to eight, and plan supplies with early learning attempts in mind. Clear communication, flexible roles, and enough resources to prioritize survival may prove more useful on day one than a plan built around unconfirmed mechanics. With branching paths, five-boss runs, and no puzzle rooms, The Fractured Archive is positioned as a distinct, battle-heavy addition to the OSRS raid lineup.
