Lost Ark’s Western operations move to Smilegate in 2027

A publishing change is coming to Lost Ark in the West. Amazon’s live-service role ends in early 2027, with Smilegate taking over operations.

A publisher change after nearly five years

Amazon Game Studios has announced that it will end its live-service operation of Lost Ark in Western markets in early 2027. The service itself is not being shut down: responsibility will pass to the game’s developer, Smilegate. That distinction matters, as this is an operational handover rather than an end-of-service announcement.

Amazon has operated the Western version for nearly five years, overseeing localization, update scheduling, store operations, community communication and customer support. How those functions will be reorganized under Smilegate should become clearer as the companies publish a more detailed transition schedule.

The questions that matter to players

The announcement does not yet provide technical details about characters, inventories or account progression. Players will be watching for information on account links, regional servers, payment methods, privacy terms and the system that will handle support requests. Until official instructions arrive, there is no reason to assume that an account or server move is required.

In a live-service transfer, continuity can be as important as the underlying data migration. Maintenance windows, marketplace availability, pending purchases or subscriptions and regional pricing may all affect players directly. Amazon and Smilegate are therefore likely to provide a staged roadmap as early 2027 approaches.

What could happen to the content schedule?

Direct control by Smilegate could make coordination between the Korean and Western editions simpler. It does not guarantee simultaneous releases, however. Localization, balance adjustments, regional rules and store requirements can still require separate preparation.

During the transition, players should confirm dates for major raids, class changes and seasonal events through official channels. The announcement does not say that future content is being cancelled. Its central message is that the Western service will continue, with the developer taking responsibility for its operation.

What players should do now

No immediate action has been requested from existing players. Keeping account details current, enabling two-factor security and following only verified Lost Ark channels should be enough for now. Handover-themed phishing emails and fake account-transfer pages may appear, so login credentials should never be entered on third-party links.

Lost Ark gold, items and accounts can be traded on GameinShop with escrow protection, while players should continue to check the latest game rules and official account policies throughout the transition.

Saving screenshots of important in-game holdings and keeping transaction receipts may also be useful before the handover. These records do not replace an official migration process, but they can help identify a character, server, purchase or inventory state if a support case becomes necessary. Nothing announced so far gives players a reason to move or liquidate assets in a hurry.

The language and frequency of communication will matter as well. When Smilegate’s regional teams, maintenance notices and support pages are ready, links should appear through the existing official channels. Players should rely on the current announcement page rather than dates circulated only in screenshots or unverified social posts.
