Fallout 76 Sets a December 1 Date for World Pets
Fallout 76’s World Pets update will launch on December 1. Companions ranging from dogs to Deathclaws can be customized, leveled, and directed with commands.
World Pets now has a release date
Fallout 76’s World Pets update is scheduled to arrive on December 1. The system adds a loyal animal companion selected by the player to journeys across the wasteland. The focus is not merely on placing a creature nearby: the chosen pet can travel alongside its owner, respond to direct commands, and grow into a more powerful ally over time.
That approach makes a pet both a personal character choice and part of moment-to-moment play. Players will be able to name their companion and customize its appearance, allowing two people who choose the same species to give their partners different identities. The confirmed December 1 launch also provides time to consider what sort of companion role might complement an existing playstyle.
Choices range from dogs to a Deathclaw
The announced companion lineup covers an unusually broad range of tones. Faithful dogs and cats represent the more familiar choices, while Radhogs and even a mighty Deathclaw provide alternatives rooted firmly in Fallout’s wasteland. Selecting a pet is therefore not solely about finding a friendly animal; it can also reflect the kind of companion a player imagines beside their character.
Naming and appearance customization add another personal layer to that variety. The overview does not, however, list the available cosmetic components, color choices, or the method for acquiring each species. Players will need to see the update’s in-game options before committing to a precise design plan. For now, the confirmed foundation is direct control over the selected animal’s name and look.
Attack, defend, and follow commands
World Pets provides three clearly identified commands for directing a companion: attack, defend, and follow. An attack order gives the animal an active role in a fight, while the defensive option establishes a protective behavior. Follow keeps the companion moving with the player. Together, these controls make clear that pets are intended to be more than a visual addition to a wasteland journey.
The command system also suggests the ability to change a companion’s role as circumstances shift. A player can choose an aggressive instruction or favor a more cautious defensive response. The overview does not specify command cooldowns, targeting rules, or detailed behavior outside combat, so those questions remain open. Until more information appears, expectations should stay grounded in the three functions that have been explicitly announced.
Companions can level up and unlock perks
A chosen animal can gain levels and develop into a stronger ally throughout the shared adventure. That progression creates a longer-term goal and prevents the first-day pet selection from feeling like a purely temporary novelty. The connection between player and companion consequently extends beyond a name and customized appearance: time spent traveling together can also contribute to the animal’s gameplay power.
Companions will additionally unlock unique perks designed to complement different playstyles. The preview does not provide perk names or precise effects, so it is too early to calculate how a particular character build will interact with them. Even so, commands, leveling, and perks establish a clear direction. On December 1, World Pets will add both a customizable traveling partner and a progression-based gameplay layer to Fallout 76.
