Fallout 76 Rolls Back Infestations Boss Health
Bethesda has lowered the health of Infestations bosses after the Mid-Season update made encounters too resource-intensive. Broader reward and balance changes are planned for fall.
The Mid-Season adjustment went too far
Fallout 76’s Mid-Season update introduced useful changes that made Infestations easier to follow. More visible server messaging and a smaller search area helped players reach the event and locate its target. The accompanying increase to boss health was less successful. Encounters took longer and consumed more ammunition, durability, and time, while rewards did not rise enough to compensate for that added cost. The development team acknowledged that the tuning overshot its goal and moved to make an interim correction.
The live adjustment moderately reduces boss health. The intention is not to turn the enemy into a trivial target that disappears in seconds, but to remove the sluggish and inefficient feeling experienced by many groups. A boss still needs to survive long enough for nearby players to participate, yet the event’s economy must remain proportionate to the resources it consumes. This partial rollback shows that the feedback was about value as much as raw difficulty.
The practical effect for players
A smaller health pool should be most noticeable for small groups and characters using weapons with heavy ammunition costs. With less total damage required, the pressure on weapon repairs, ammo crafting, and temporary buffs may also decline. Results will still vary with server population, participant count, and character builds. Tracking completion time and resource use over the first few encounters is the clearest way for players to decide whether Infestations now fits efficiently into their regular loop.
The change also highlights a fundamental tension in public boss design. Shared-world targets must be durable enough to support broad participation, but a longer fight does not automatically create a better experience. When time and material costs rise while rewards remain fixed, experienced players may begin skipping the event; newcomers then struggle to find a crowd. Reducing health early can interrupt that cycle and make Infestations worth including in daily routes again.
Broader revisions are coming in fall
This adjustment is not the final word. The developers say additional changes to Infestations rewards and the overall encounter balance are being prepared for the fall update. The current health reduction should therefore be viewed as a short-term improvement while a more complete solution is developed. Feedback about completion times, participation, and reward value can help determine the next round of tuning.
