Operation Avalon brings EVE Online’s war into orbit

Operation Avalon turns combat, exploration and salvage into a limited-time world event across New Eden. From July 7-20, EVE Online and EVE Vanguard share the same conflict backdrop.

A two-front event for New Eden

CCP Games has opened Operation Avalon, a limited-time world event running from July 7 to July 20. The central idea is to connect capsuleers in EVE Online with the ground-level conflict of EVE Vanguard under one broader wartime story. The announcement frames the fighting below as something that has now reached space, creating new opportunities for pilots across New Eden.

That matters because the event is not presented as a simple one-step login reward or a narrow mission chain. Players are being pushed toward sites built around combat, hacking and salvage, which gives different types of pilots a reason to take part. Fleets looking for action, explorers looking for leads and industrial-minded players watching the market all have something to track during the two-week window.

AEGIS squalls and hidden locations

The most specific hook in Operation Avalon is the hunt for valuable AEGIS squalls. According to the announcement, these targets carry intelligence and dangerous secrets. Players can destroy them for immediate rewards, or follow the trail toward hidden locations where the potential payout appears to be higher. That choice gives the event a clear risk-reward split from the start.

It is a very EVE-like setup. Small groups that want fast results can focus on direct engagements, while organized corporations may prefer to track targets, control routes and contest the more valuable follow-up sites. Because the event lasts only two weeks, early knowledge about spawn patterns, travel routes and ship choices is likely to become valuable quickly.

What capsuleers should prepare

Players planning to participate should think beyond raw damage. The announcement specifically mentions fighting, hacking and salvaging, so utility fits and clear fleet roles may matter as much as firepower. Solo pilots may want agile ships that can scout and disengage, while groups can benefit from bringing scanners, hackers, damage dealers and salvage support together rather than treating every site as a pure brawl.

The connection to EVE Vanguard is also worth watching. Operation Avalon gives CCP a live way to show how a ground war can echo through EVE Online’s space economy and territorial pressure. Even if the event itself is temporary, the response to Avalon may help shape how future cross-game conflicts are designed.

The deadline is the real pressure

Operation Avalon ends on July 20, so players who want rewards should not leave it until the final weekend. Early days often bring discovery and experimentation, while later days tend to concentrate competition around the most efficient routes. A practical plan is to test several sites, learn which risks your fleet can handle and avoid overcommitting expensive hulls before the event meta settles.
