Fractured Skies Puts EVE's Four Empires on a Collision Course

EVE Online's Fractured Skies expansion launches on November 10. Four competing empires, new warships and system control define its opening chapter.

The second act of the Theaters of War trilogy

EVE Online's next expansion, Fractured Skies, is scheduled to launch on November 10. It is positioned as the second entry in the Theaters of War trilogy, with Factional Warfare and planetary conflict at the center of its premise. According to the revealed outline, New Eden's four empires will enter direct competition as a new period of warfare begins.

The launch is not presented as a single package whose story ends on release day. Fractured Skies will open a period of additional content, events and developments extending across the following months. November 10 should therefore be understood as the starting point of a longer expansion arc rather than the moment when every part of it arrives at once.

Factional Warfare connects to a broader struggle

With all four empires pursuing an advantage at the same time, Factional Warfare sits at the heart of the expansion. The accompanying emphasis on planetary conflict suggests a struggle framed across more than encounters between fleets. For now, the central idea is clear: each empire's war effort will overlap with the others across several fronts.

The empires will also compete for the backing of both new and veteran capsuleers. The announcement does not yet explain which activities, rewards or systems will represent that support. Even so, addressing pilots at different experience levels indicates that the content planned for the coming months is meant to involve a broad portion of the capsuleer population in the same overarching conflict.

New warships and a race for Drifter technology

Fractured Skies will see the four empires deploy EVE Online's first navy attack battlecruisers. Statistics, battlefield roles and acquisition routes for these ships have not been detailed in the information released so far. Their introduction nevertheless gives the imperial rivalry a tangible military dimension: the competition will be visible not only in the narrative, but also in the vessels sent into combat.

At the same time, the empires are intensifying their attempts to uncover the secrets of Drifter technology. No specific result of that research has been disclosed. Placing this technological race beside the arrival of a new category of navy vessel shows that Fractured Skies is setting up a contest for technical superiority as well as conventional military power.

Conquest Engines aim at system-wide control

The expansion's largest-scale element is a class of enormous constructs called Conquest Engines. Built by the empires, these destructive machines are described as capable of imposing control over an entire star system. Their precise operation and the ways capsuleers will interact with them remain unspecified, so their strategic significance is currently clearer than their moment-to-moment mechanics.

Every confirmed part of Fractured Skies points in the same direction: four empires are gathering support, fielding new navy ships, pursuing Drifter knowledge and preparing tools capable of affecting control at system scale. The November 10 release will begin that process, while the content, events and developments that follow will reveal how far the conflict ultimately expands.
