CS2 Season 5 starts with Cache and a bomb damage rework
Counter-Strike 2 Season 5 changes both map preparation and late-round decision-making. Cache joins the Active Duty pool, Overpass leaves, and bomb damage now behaves very differently.
Cache enters Active Duty
Counter-Strike 2 Season 5 opens with a map pool change that competitive players will feel immediately. Cache has moved into the Active Duty pool, while Overpass has been removed from that rotation. For Premier squads, this is more than a new backdrop: opening routes, utility timing, default setups, and retake plans all need another look.
Cache is familiar to long-time Counter-Strike players, but it still needs to be re-read inside CS2. Lighting, sightlines, movement feel, and smoke behavior can all change how old habits perform. Fast A hits, the value of mid control, and defensive options around B are likely to become major talking points as Season 5 settles in.
Bomb damage now respects the map
The most important gameplay change is the redesigned bomb damage model. Instead of working mostly as a simple distance check, the explosion now spreads through the map like a shockwave. Corners and walls reduce its force, so choosing an escape route after the plant becomes a more deliberate tactical decision.
That shift can change late-round habits. Players can no longer think only about how far they are from the site; they also need to consider line of sight, enclosed corridors, and safe positions behind geometry. In close retake losses, the player who chooses the better corner may now have a better chance of surviving the blast.
Premier teams need fresh prep
The start of Season 5 creates a short but important adjustment window for anyone trying to climb Premier ranks. With Cache in the pool, teams should revisit roles, smoke lineups, flash support, mid-control plans, and post-plant positions. Groups that invested heavily in Overpass will also need to update veto habits and practice priorities.
